The Raiders also have a second team in National League 2 and as part of this sponsorship deal will launch a new initiative to get more young people and women players to participate in the sport.

The Raiders will be holding development sessions every Friday evening at Mile End Leisure Centre in Tower Hamlets where young people will get specialist coaching sessions and the ability to use new ultra-light sport wheelchairs. The Raiders will also play all their home matches at Mile End Leisure Centre, which is located in a 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Host Borough and officially listed as a potential pre-games training venue for 2012.

GLL and the GLL Sport Foundation will become the main sponsors of the Raiders and will work together to promote wheelchair basketball and wider awareness of opportunities within disability sport.

GLL is London’s leading social enterprise, operating 65 public sports facilities within fifteen boroughs in London and surrounding areas. They currently operate sports facilities in Partnership with the five 2012 Host Boroughs of Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. Peter Bundey, GLL Director and GLL Sport Foundation Chair is delighted with this partnership;

“The Raiders are a fantastic club that aims to achieve at the highest sporting level but also continues to look at community engagement and promotion of their sport.
The players regularly support GLL at sport development events and are excellent ambassadors to inspire young disabled people to get involved in sport and perhaps even target forthcoming Paralympic Games.

We are a company with charitable objects and so we need to chose very carefully how best to help sport and young people through sport. We are confident that supporting the Raiders will provide us with the right profile to help encourage more participation in disability sport”.
